So... “what if you don’t win?" Or... “so what if you don’t win?!"

October 2018

The Russell Bedford central office team attended the prestigious International Accounting Bulletin's annual awards ceremony in London. Our network was shortlisted for “Network of the Year”. We demonstrated impressive growth, record-breaking events, increased fee revenues from referral work, new initiatives, an enhanced website & social media presence, a full rebrand, excellent client feedback... I could go on!

But we didn’t win... we lost to a network 16 times the size of us. We may not have reached their heights but I very much doubt they have ever achieved so much progress in two years as we just did in one.

Did it bother me? Yes... I was noticeably disappointed; my team and I worked so hard over the past year and we felt we deserved to be winners.

But... should an award define you?

Several world class actors have never won an Oscar...

Why do we place such importance on recognition and “acceptance” by people we hardly know?

Several of our members told me today we are still the best network in the world. And they have several clients who say they are the best firms in the world.

That is what is important!

(PLUS... we shall remain very proud to be finalists in the Top 3 of all global accounting networks for 2018!!!)
